Spring Prep Check-In: Is Your Golf Cart Ready to Wake Up?

Upgrade Your Golf Cart This Autumn Reading Spring Prep Check-In: Is Your Golf Cart Ready to Wake Up? 3 minutes

Winters halfway point is here—and whether you tucked your golf cart away with care or havent quite gotten around to it yet, now is the perfect time to make sure its protected for the rest of the season. A little attention today can prevent surprises down the fairway.

Why Mid-Winter Check-Ups Matter

  •  Battery self-discharge occurs even when disconnected, especially with lead-acid batteries
  • Temperature swings can affect tire pressure, seals, and fluids
  • Unexpected moisture may find its way into your storage space
  • Pests sometimes seek shelter in quiet, covered vehicles

The 15-Minute Mid-Season Check

✅ Battery Check

  • Lead-acid batteries: Should be stored fully charged. If below full charge, recharge to 100% before continuing storage.
  • Lithium batteries: Store at 40–60% charge in a cool, dry place. Avoid long-term storage at full charge.

Always disconnect the main negative terminal for extended storage.

✅ Tires & Storage Position

Inflate tires to the manufacturer's recommended PSI or 10% above to prevent flat spots.

If possible, lift the cart using jack stands to completely remove weight from tires.

If you storaged your golf cart outdoor with cover, lift and air it out periodically to prevent moisture buildup.

✅ Cover & Environment

  • Ensure your cover is breathable, waterproof, and UV-resistant. Avoid plastic tarps that trap condensation.
  • Clear any snow, leaves, or debris on or around the cart.
  • Verify that water isn’t pooling underneath and that the storage area remains dry.

Quick Review

Battery care:

Lead-acid - Fully charge, then disconnect.

Lithium - Charge to 40–60%, then disconnect and store indoors if possible.

Inflate tires to proper pressure or lift the cart to avoid sidewall damage.

Use a fitted, breathable golf cart cover—never a plastic tarp—to protect from moisture and debris.

Plan Your Cart’s Comeback

About 6–8 weeks before your first spring round:

Reconnect batteries and charge fully before first use.

Check brakes, lights, and steering during a slow, initial test drive.

For gas carts: Check fuel lines, add fresh gas if needed, and inspect fluids.

A small mid-winter effort keeps your golf cart reliable, safe, and ready to roll when you are.

From now until spring, keep it protected with our all-weather golf cart covers—breathable, durable, and designed to guard against moisture, UV, and debris. Whether you’re starting winter prep today or reinforcing it mid-season, a quality cover is your cart’s best defense against the elements.
